Dr. Andrea Edel (b. 1963), international culture manager. Studied music (recorder and piano) at the College of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, and History of Art at the Universities of Frankfurt am Main, Freiburg im Breisgau and Giessen in Germany and Bern (Switzerland). From 1990 to 1993 research years in Paris with a Foreign Fellowship of the Gerda Henkel Foundation. 1993 Doctoral thesis in Bern on the French artist, scientist and politician Charles Blanc (1813-1882). Management of the poster collection at the Museum of Applied Art in Cologne from 1994 to 1996. From 1997 to 2014 director of the Office of Culture of the City of Kaiserslautern. Since april 2014 director of the Office of Culture of the City of Heidelberg (Germany). Since december 2014 head of the project ´UNESCO Creative City Heidelberg / City of Literature´. Since 2015 member of the advisory council „Variety of Forms of Artistic Expressions“ of the German UNESCO Commission. Since 2019 board member of the working group of heads of municipal cultural offices of the Parliament of the Cities of the State of Baden-Württemberg in Germany. Since 1986 member of various ensembles, concerts and performances (intuitive music, baroque music in historical performance practice, Heiko Plank Ensemble). Studierte Musik an der Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main (Blockflöte und Klavier) und Kunstgeschichte an den Universitäten Frankfurt am Main, Freiburg im Breisgau, Gießen und Bern. 1990-1993 Forschungsjahre in Paris als Auslandsstipendiatin der Gerda Henkel Stiftung. 1993 Dissertation in Bern über den französischen Künstler, Kunsttheoretiker und Kulturpolitiker Charles Blanc (1813-1882). 1994-1996 Leitung der Plakatsammlung am Museum für Angewandte Kunst Köln. 1997-2014 Direktorin des Referats Kultur der Stadt Kaiserslautern, Programmgestaltung der internationalen Konzerte und Ausstellungen in der Fruchthalle Kaiserslautern. 2000 Gründung und bis 2014 Gestaltung des jährlichen Festivals ´Lange Nacht der Kultur´ in Kaiserslautern. 2005-2007 Lehrbeauftrage für Kunstgeschichte im Studiengang ´Virtual Design´ an der Fachhochschule Kaiserslautern und für ´Synästhetik´ an der Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Saar in Saarbrücken. Seit April 2014 Leiterin des Kulturamts der Stadt Heidelberg. Seit Dezember 2014 Leiterin der ´UNESCO Creative City Heidelberg / City of Literature´. Seit 2015 Mitglied des Beirats „Vielfalt künstlerischer Ausdrucksformen“ der Deutschen UNESCO-Kommission e.V.. Seit 2019 Vorstandsmitglied der Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Leiterinnen und Leiter kommunaler Kulturämter des Städtetags Baden-Württemberg. Seit 1986 Mitglied verschiedener Ensembles, Konzerte und Performances (Intuitive Musik, Barockmusik in historischer Aufführungspraxis, Heiko Plank Ensemble).
