Dr. Andrea Edel (b. 1963), international culture manager. She studied music at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, and Art History at the Universities of Frankfurt am Main, Freiburg im Breisgau, Giessen and Bern in Germany and Switzerland. From 1990 to 1993 she conducted research in Paris as an international fellow of the Gerda Henkel Foundation. In 1993 she completed her doctoral thesis at the University of Bern about the French artist, art theorist, art historian, and cultural policymaker Charles Blanc (1813-1882). From 1994 to 1996 she headed the Poster Collection of the Museum of Applied Arts Cologne. From 1997 to 2014 she served as Director of the Department of Cultural Affairs of the City of Kaiserslautern, where she was responsible for developing and delivering the international concert and exhibition programme at Fruchthalle Kaiserslautern. In 2000 she founded the annual Long Night of Culture festival in Kaiserslautern and was responsible for its artistic programme until 2014. From 2005 to 2007 she served as a lecturer in Art History at the Virtual Design programme at Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences and taught Synaesthetics at the Saar University of Fine Arts in Saarbrücken. In 2013, she initiated and contributed to the programme development of the international art historical colloquium Charles Blanc (1813-1882): Life – Work – Impact , organized by the National Institute of Art History (INHA) and the German Center for Art History (DFK Paris). Since 2014, she has served as Head of the Cultural Affairs Office of the City of Heidelberg and as Focal Point of the UNESCO City of Literature Heidelberg. Since 2015 she has served as a member of the Advisory Board on the Diversity of Cultural Expressions of the German Commission for UNESCO. Since 2019, she has served on the Executive Board of the Working Group of Heads of Municipal Cultural Affairs Offices of the Baden-Württemberg Association of Cities. Since 2024, she has served as the City of Heidelberg´s Coordinator for the European Capital of Culture project. Since 2026, she has been a member of the German Commission for UNESCO.

Studierte Musik an der Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main (Blockflöte und Klavier) und Kunstgeschichte an den Universitäten Frankfurt am Main, Freiburg im Breisgau, Gießen und Bern. 1990-1993 Forschungsjahre in Paris als Auslandsstipendiatin der Gerda Henkel Stiftung. 1993 Dissertation in Bern über den französischen Künstler, Kunsttheoretiker, Kunsthistoriker und Kulturpolitiker Charles Blanc (1813-1882). 1994-1996 Leitung der Plakatsammlung am Museum für Angewandte Kunst Köln. 1997-2014 Direktorin des Referats Kultur der Stadt Kaiserslautern, Programmgestaltung und Durchführung der internationalen Konzerte und Ausstellungen in der Fruchthalle Kaiserslautern. 2000 Gründung und bis 2014 Gestaltung des jährlichen Festivals “Lange Nacht der Kultur” in Kaiserslautern. 2005-2007 Lehrbeauftrage für Kunstgeschichte im Studiengang “Virtual Design” an der Fachhochschule Kaiserslautern und für “Synästhetik” an der Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Saar in Saarbrücken. 2013 Initiierung und Beteiligung an der Programmgestaltung des internationalen kunsthistorischen Kolloquiums “Charles Blanc (1813-1882). Vie – Oeuvre – Impact” des Institut national d´histoire de l´art (INHA) und des Deutschen Forums für Kunstgeschichte (DFK) Paris. Seit 2014 Leiterin des Kulturamts der Stadt Heidelberg und Koordinatorin der UNESCO City of Literature Heidelberg. Seit 2015 Mitglied des Beirats „Vielfalt kultureller Ausdrucksformen“ der Deutschen UNESCO-Kommission. Seit 2019 Vorstandsmitglied der Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Leiterinnen und Leiter kommunaler Kulturämter des Städtetags Baden-Württemberg. Seit 2024 Beauftragte Projekt Kulturhauptstadt Europas für die Stadt Heidelberg. Seit 2026 Mitglied der Deutschen UNESCO Kommission.
